Ehhhhh, it's like hanging out in Kintoki's room or something...

[ She pauses to listen to the announcement, then shrugs, starting to follow the path forward. It's been years since she's played a game, but she does remember being used to lots of random encounters in caves.

To Dedenne, then: ] I guess this is where I'll have to count on you, huh? What do you think?

[derailer]

Dedenne squeaks with enthusiastic determination. We're gonna destroy this cave! ...Hopefully!!

You move forward, but the one path is blocked by a large blue rock hovering in midair from the strange energy. To the left you can see another flash of blue, but that's about all you can discern.

[fujimaru]

[ That's the spirit!!

When she gets to the rock, she pauses, looking around for a stick or something to grab. She wants to poke the rock with the stick, just to see if it's the sort of thing that's solidly set in place, or just floating the way it appears to be. ]

I wonder if there's a trick to it... this is the kind of thing that'd be a puzzle in a game, right?

[derailer]

It's mostly rocks of various sizes in here. If you poke the big blue hovering rock with a smaller rock, it wobbles in midair. It looks like it could be moved somewhere, if you could get it out of its current magnetic pull and into a different one.

[fujimaru]

Hmmmmmm...

[ She pokes harder at the rock for a moment, considering how much of a swinging trajectory she can get. Could she weasel her way under it while it swings like a pendulum?

...

Probably not a great idea. Time to see what that blue flash to the left was, just in case it's a clue of some sort. ]

[derailer]

It doesn't seem like it will swing quite that far. But the blue to the left looks like it's another rock of the same kind as the floating one!

In what direction are you poking this floating rock, by the way?

[fujimaru]

[ She WAS just nudging it forward on the path, just to test, but when she sees that the other rock is the same kind of thing, she nudges it to the left. What's going to happen? She has no idea. ]

[derailer]

The rock gives much more when pushed in that direction. One good push should do it!

[fujimaru]

...

Okay! Let's give this a good shot!

[ She's going to use both hands and shove as hard as she can, because what is moderation. ]

[derailer]

It's fine. That's definitely good enough. Dedenne cheers as it rockets forward, pulled in by the other rock. Puzzle mechanic successfully identified! The path forward is clear now!

[fujimaru]

Good job, us!

[ This is also Dedenne's victory, on account of it being Ritsuka's moral support,

But now she will proceed forward, until such time where she must make another choice. ]

[derailer]

You keep moving forward and end up at a junction where you can go left, or keep going straight.

[fujimaru]

...we're gonna get lost really fast, huh...

[ She takes a quick photo of the junction, then keeps moving straight forward. ]

If you smell anything or sense anything in a direction I'm not going, tell me, okay?

[derailer]

Dedenne squeaks hesitantly, turning her head back as they move forward—she thinks there might be something down the other path, but she's not sure if it's something Ritsuka wants to know about or not...

[fujimaru]

[ She pauses at that, tilting her own head to look at the Pokemon on her shoulder. ]

Is there something? Is it gonna be a bad idea if we go?

[ But even as she says that, she's changing directions. Even if it's a bad idea, she's all in. ]

[derailer]

Dedenne can't answer all these complex questions, but she does yell loudly right before you step on a rock that turns out to be... alive! It's a Boldore, getting up and turning towards you.

[fujimaru]

...ah.

[ She starts to back up slowly, pointing the Pokedex at it. Oh boy. Oh heck. ]

[derailer]

It's pure Rock type. Dedenne won't be super-effective against it, but it won't be resisted either.

Dedenne starts crawling down your arm, implicitly asking permission to fight it. But she also looks apologetic. See! If you're afraid, that's why she wasn't sure if you wanted to come see it or not!

[fujimaru]

[ She pauses at that, looking at Dedenne, head cocked. ]

Are you sure...?

[derailer]

Dedenne hesitates at Ritsuka's hesitation. But out of the corner of her eye, she sees the Boldore is aggressive, about to attack. So she leaps down, prepared to fight!

You can still choose to run away. But otherwise, it's a Pokemon battle!

[fujimaru]

[ Ritsuka has never willingly run away from a fight in her life and usually has to be bodily carried off in order to stop. If you don't think she will not simply throw herself between these two if she has to you do not know her. Meanwhile I do not even know what moves this poor Pokemon has.

But at least she knows better than to direct it to use anything Electric on this guy. That leaves its Fairy typing, though, which she is going to stick to wherever possible. Bulbapedia tells me it can learn a few Grass moves but let's not worry about that just yet.

[derailer]

Dedenne will Play Rough with the Boldore! The hardy Boldore doesn't go down that easily, and has the chance to get off a weak, but super-effective Mud Slap. Dedenne takes some damage, and will have a -1 modifier moving forward until she is healed. But with another attack, the Boldore has fainted!

[fujimaru]

Ah...

[ There is a part of her that is kind of sad she did not get the chance to catch it, but there is also more important things to worry about. Ritsuka hurries forward to scoop Dedenne back up, careful. ]

Guess I need to level up too, huh...? Sorry about that. You can take a break.

[ translation she's just going to kick the next aggro Pokemon in the face instead of making poor Dedenne deal with it. ]

[derailer]

We'll see how that works out for you.

Dedenne squeaks sadly, now confident she knows NOT to direct Ritsuka towards any wild Pokemon she senses.

[fujimaru]

[ Hey now she's got good legs and very little sense of self-preservation which means she is not going to hold back.

For now she just pets Dedenne's head gently. ]

Let's see if we can find something to fix you up, okay? You rest now.
