The ticket machine has a touch screen that displays a list of selectable items, with a label at the top: Prison Shop. Almost all of the items and prices are glitchy and illegible. But there is one option that is clear, and faintly glowing, looking as if it is superimposed over the glitchy screen. It reads:
Civilization it is, with the hopes we find some wild friends along the way! Sigilyph, can you scout ahead and see if there's anything we need to be keeping an eye out for?
[ Might as well make use of a Flying type. Forewarned is forearmed, after all. ]
Sigilyph bobs her head in assent, and then starts flapping up the slope. It's easy enough to climb, you can tell; it's a settlement, and the path is well-traveled—but it's very icy right now, and still inevitably dangerous in the blizzard.
Someone from inside one of the tents hears the sounds of a Pokemon's wingbeats and peeks out, and then lets out a louder cry when she sees that it's a strange Pokemon she's never seen before. She bursts out of the tent, Glaceon by her side. It's Irida, who you saw in the train photos. (She's still dressed very skimpily, even in the blizzard.)
"Stay back! Glaceon, go—!"
Unless you recall Glaceon now, you're going to be stuck in a Pokemon battle! Irida doesn't notice any people yet, only Sigilyph.
Okay you understood what I meant even though I said Glaceon instead of Sigilyph up there. Sigilyph is safely recalled to the Pokeball. Irida turns to the both of you with surprise.
"You're—foreign travelers...? In a storm like this?! You—"
She suddenly looks conflicted, under a lot of stress right now, but the moral choice in this situation is clear.
What she said. We were actually just trying to come by a few more Pokemon in case battling came up [ case in point ] and we needed to defend ourselves more thoroughly, so we won't stay long. Thanks for the shelter, though!
She ushers them into the "tent," but it's a cozy, sturdy, permanent structure in here. There's wood flooring, reinforced walls and a roof, bunk beds and a stove, and so on. But the few people gathered in here look glum.
"I don't know if it's going to stop any time soon..." Irida explains for the group. "We sent out a party to gather materials early yesterday, but we're approaching nightfall today, and there's no sign of them. That's well over a full day that they've been missing, and the blizzard picked up this afternoon. We're running low on supplies. I'm sorry shelter is all we can offer you right now... We don't have enough to feed everyone in the clan tonight, let alone travelers..."
A man frowns, though, and offers: "They've clearly come here from far away. They must have landed on the wrong shore. They may have my rations if need be—I will manage."
Quite frankly, I'm a little worried about letting them stay out there alone for another night. They might be a little more prepared to handle the elements out there than we are, but all the same...
[ Well, she's a Servant. She can handle any kind of weather. ]
I agree with heading in that same direction, though. The least we can do is try to rendezvous with your party.
"It's not just a matter of the elements," Irida says firmly. "You said it yourself. There are wild Pokemon all over. But—if you have Pokemon of your own..."
Irida looks down at the floor. It's a lot to ask of some strangers.
"...I think they might have headed to the south, past Avalugg's Legacy. Oh—that's a tall platform of ice. You really can't miss it, even in a storm. But please, don't feel any obligation. In the worst situation, I don't want to add any more casualties."
We'll be all right. I assure you, we can handle ourselves well enough.
[south, is it... she makes note of that, considering, as she glances back to da vinci.]
I don't particularly want to wait too long, either, but elements aside-- we can't rely on ambient light in a storm. If we're going into unfamiliar terrain, it's much riskier in the dark, even with Sigilyph to keep watch... and we'd need enough of a light source. One that can't be blown out by the wind. Failing that, we'd be working on limited time until we lose the last of the daylight.
"We can get you a lantern," she offers, "but that's not going to be truly safe from the wind... What if I sent my Flareon with you? He could make sure it stays lit."
So while she turns to get a lantern—and several jars of something—she whistles towards a corner, and a Flareon comes trotting out. There don't seem to be Pokeballs in use here.
After she hands you the lantern—whoever's closest to receive it—she gives you five jars packed in a satchel.
"These are potions. Please make sure to keep your Pokemon safe on the journey. And I'm sorry I didn't even introduce myself... I've been so harried. My name is Irida. I'm the leader of the Pearl Clan. I would be honored to have your names... and if one of our Wardens happens to return here from their post, I'll let them know your names and send them out after you."
A potion will heal 1 damage per potion. Use them wisely!

[scouting sigilyph, go!
except it seems to startle someone, and while they did come here to battle-- that one is definitely Not one of the wild pokemon they're here for.]
It's all right, it won't harm you!
[she calls up the slope, projecting her voice over the wind as well as she can.]

She, uh.
Slips like six times, but this is fine; she's reaching out with her Pokeball to recall Sigilyph because ice is a Bad Idea. ]
We come in peace!!

We don't mean to impose, I promise. As soon as this passes we'll be out of your way.

[she glances back toward the entrance with her brow furrowed, finding a place to settle for the moment.]
We'll need to get moving once the night passes, regardless; if you have any idea what direction they might have gone, we can head that way.

[pokemon labor is nice, it would just be easier with magic... honestly, little friends are not at all a bad replacement for spells though.]
In that case... if you're all right with sending him along, we'll go see what we can find.

I think this'll work out nicely. Thank you, mysterious benefactor.
[ She knows her name. But still. ]

[leaning down to give flareon a little pat, if he allows it... good boy.]
Shall we, then?
[off to this landmark in the south!]

You can call me Da Vinci, and this is Lucretia. Thanks for all your help, Irida!

[bless, they might need those. if da vinci has the lantern, she'll hang on to the satchel on their way.]

Irida bows deeply to you. Flareon lets out a cry, and then trots out of the tent area to lead the way down.
It turns out the train at the base of the slope is gone. Even if you wanted to take it back to Gear Station, you can't anymore.

Well, guess we're stuck here until we accomplish either a rescue mission, a catching mission, or both.
[ She doesn't appear to be too dismayed. ]
no subject
[frillish gets let out as well, twirling with a little cry. it is SO ready.]
Just watch your footing here. I doubt either of us wants to carry the other over ice.
