[left they go! it's likely the snow has covered up things like prints, but she keeps an eye out regardless for any signs of life or people passing by.]

Can you see anything-? Hopefully they didn't manage to wander too far.

Flareon trots on ahead to help guide you on your way. Though the snow covers up tracks, you can at least see that... there aren't any materials or food to pick up. Maybe there just isn't any in a stretch like this? Or maybe it means that the crew already passed this way and picked things up?

Eventually the territory switches over. You see a couple of Snover, who are similarly passive, watching you go past. This seems like a peaceful journey so far, which lends additional credence to the idea that this is where the experienced inhabitants traveled. So what exactly happened to them...?

Sigilyph, fly up a little higher, okay? If someone comes at us, I'd rather it be because it saw us and not you.

... It's strange, though. There's been no sign of anyone so far...

[ambiography]

It's a little disconcerting. We may not exactly be able to track their path, with the snow, but... surely there should be something.

Flareon, have you noticed anything-?

[derailer]

Flareon looks around, and then stares past the snow more inland, growling. The Snover make short offended noises in return, though they still don't attack.

Sigilyph flies higher, and then lets out a short cry—apparently she sees whatever it is Flareon sees, over the crest of a tall snowdrift.

[davincible]

... There's something there, past the snowdrift.

[ She's going to step forward with the lantern, to try and cast a little more light. ]

[ambiography]

...seems like it. Stay on your guard, Frillish.

[the way flareon is growling does not exactly bode well; she moves along with da vinci, cautiously, edging around the side of the drift.]

By now, with all of you focusing in that direction, your presence is becoming very obvious. Your lantern casts upon the red eyes of an alpha Pokemon, shining in the darkness. And it comes closer—a hulking Abomasnow, barreling towards you. This one is not as polite as everything else you've encountered. It wants to fight!

Since it's an alpha, if you do choose to roll to battle it, you will have -1. But there's still the option to run away.

[ PLEASE WE'RE HOT AND STUPID ONCE EVERY THREE MONTHS-- ]

What the hell--

[ WHY ARE ITS EYES RED.

Da Vinci braces herself, glancing over at Flareon. That's obviously an Ice-type, so maybe-- ]

Look, Flareon, I know we're not your trainer but I swear I will give you the pampering of a lifetime if we can get your help right now!

[ What if the party also got attacked by this thing? She'll call a retreat if need be, but for now--she's casting Lucretia a sharp glance just to make sure she isn't in the RUN AWAY IMMEDIATELY camp. ]

[derailer]

Flareon may be facing off against an alpha, but he has STAB plus 4x effectiveness. He still gets +2 after the -1, and rolls a 10! He barks in assent, before shooting off a Flamethrower.

Abomasnow is reeling, just hanging on. Either of you could catch it!

[ambiography]

Holy shit.

[DAMN, FLAREON. he's here to carry them through this, they will spoil this animal so much...

with the abomasnow reeling, though, it looks like they have an opening. lucretia takes a pokeball in hand and flings it!]

That's the way!!

[ SHE'S GONNA FLUFF THIS GOOD CHILD. ]

Congratulations! You now have an Abomasnow, which has a +1 by default due to being an Alpha. However, it took a lot of damage from that flamethrower. It has 3 points of damage that will be a -3 negative modifier unless you heal it.

Flareon is relieved it went well, leaning into the fluffs.

[flareon gets additional pets... frillish hovers nearby, watching, and it gets pets as well. you're still a good jellyfish, frillish.]

Think we'd better have a look around here, that didn't seem like it would be easy to get past.

[so, time to check out the area abomasnow was previously chilling in; is there anything odd over here? any indication that maybe this pokemon caused a few problems?]

I've gotta up my catching game here too...

[ Well! For now! She's just lavishing Flareon with love before she straightens and holds up the lantern again to check for anything strange. ]

[derailer]

It seems for a moment as if the danger has passed, and if there is nothing in particular in this immediate area. But the Snover who were followers of the alpha are now acting aggressive, angry at you for taking out the leader of their group. There are two of them in range. One of them makes to attack, charging an Energy Ball!

[ambiography]

You'd think taking out the big one would make them think twice.

[damnit. not the time to run, if these are already attacking, so:]

Frillish! Let's try something different, this time.

[water won't do much good against grass, after all, so ghost moves it is!

and frillish gets a 7 against one of them, let's gooo.]

[ Aaaand rolled an 11, so-- ]

Let's do this, then! Sigilyph, let's put those wings of yours to use!

[ Well. This thing is also Grass, right? And Sigilyph's got Flying going for her, might as well abuse it. Flareon can't do all the work here. ]

[derailer]

Energy Ball does do a decent amount of damage against Frillish, being a Grass-type move. But in the end, Snover is still a weaker minion-type Pokemon. Shadow Ball manages to take it out! A victory for Frillish!!

Sigilyph, meanwhile, totally owns the other Snover with an Air Slash, causing it to flinch before any damage can be done. This Snover teeters, not quite out. It can be caught!

[ambiography]

[REDEMPTION FOR FRILLISH. she will give it one of the potions, please survive, frillish.]

Fine by me!

[ She hurls a Pokeball. It's unnecessarily dramatic. ]

[derailer]

You successfully heal Frillish, and catch a Snover! (Who will also have damage until healed.)

Now that it's much more peaceful, you can see that the party must have stopped collecting materials right around here. There are rocks that haven't been broken open for stones, and some tufts of plants that haven't been picked. You think you can hear something...

[ambiography]

...ah. I think that's-- I don't know if it's a good sign, but it's a sign, for sure.

[she's kneeling down to check out one of those plants, while she listens to whatever the sound is-- can they hear more or less where it's coming from?]

[derailer]

They're the leaves of a root vegetable.

The sound is coming just slightly further down in the direction where you were originally headed.

[davincible]

[ She's pausing, glancing down in that direction. ]

Sorry, buddy. [ to the newly-caught Snover in the Pokeball-- ] I'll give you a potion once we get through this.

Lucretia, let's proceed carefully.
