Is it by any chance to tell me all the things Ingo fears you perceive as his flaws, and then have a Pokemon battle with me?

"You're no fun. I didn't even get to do my whole speech. But I appreciate your quick thinking. I'll be honest, my heart isn't really in it. So do you want to get to the battle?"

[Haha. He warms considerably at this, looking soft for a moment, and nods.]

I'd like nothing more. Go, Bronzong!

[He is taking a gamble. Da Vinci isn't a real Pokemon trainer. She won't have a Pokemon Ingo knows her to have had in the real world. Instead she'll have one Ingo thinks she should have . . . he's going to guess it's Electric, Fairy, Fire, or Psychic. If it's Fire he'll have to swap to Sharpedo again, but if it's any of the others, Bronzong is one of the best choices to face it.]

"Bene! Then let's go, Sigilyph!"

Sigilyph bursts out, flapping her wings with a cry.

[That's a Psychic type, right . . . Saturn isn't very familiar with this Pokemon. It's obviously Flying, so it's a good thing he didn't bring out Toxicroak. Is it Psychic? Sharpedo might have been the best choice after all, but he still has—]

It is indeed Psychic, and it's reeling after that hit. There's not very much it can do it return. It puts up a Light Screen to try and delay the inevitable.

"You're more of a savvy trainer than I gave you credit for after all. You thought this through, didn't you?"

Hey, that one came from Ingo's-mind Da Vinci. That one was in Ingo's mind!

[Eat another Shadow Ball! But it's true, he's doing pretty well...that makes him smile. Ingo Da Vinci thinks so too!]

I had a guess what types of Pokémon he might associate with you, yes.

"Spectacular. So tell me. The next car is the last one. Who do you think is going to be there? Are you nervous? Excited? Ready to be free from the endless agony of self-doubt?"

Sigilyph uses Hypnosis in a last ditch effort, barely hanging on. It misses.

[Poor Sigilyph. It looks pretty cool, Saturn thinks. Maybe he should try to find one someday, if he's ever in a position again to catch Pokémon. But it's time to end this battle.]

...It can only be Emmet. I won't be losing to him. Anyway, going through this is nothing like living with it. I want to alleviate some of these anxieties while I'm here with them.

"Oh, he's fine. Sure, it takes up an entire train line. But there's plenty of other train lines that aren't like this. Don't we all have anxieties hounding us?"

She barely even pays attention to Sigilyph fainting, recalling it before it hits the ground.

Well, yes. And I suppose I am the one who picked the "Regressive" line, so I've gotten a skewed look at things. But still, that doesn't mean I don't want to reassure him. Isn't that a natural desire? —I like that Pokémon. What's it called?

[Bronzong gets pats! Good bell!]

"Sigilyph? It's fascinating, isn't it? They resemble Nazca Lines. I got a glimpse of this Pokemon outside of here, in Sphinx's combat simulator. So the association is locked in now. ...Anyway, I'm sure he'll take any reassurances you have to give him. Don't let me stop you. I certainly don't want to be stuck being the only one reassuring him day in and day out."

Alas, she didn't manage to entirely avoid the script.

[Jokingly, though. His mood is much better since he entered.]

Thank you for the information. Sigilyph...but anyway, I'd better go finish what I've started.

"I won't be cheering for you, but you understand the situation I'm in."

She takes a seat, crossing her legs and posing coquettishly. There's no reason for all that. This is probably just continued Ingo-vision.

[Ingo...he has to wonder what a Saturn in here would be like. But on to the last car!]

Here in the final car, you may at last confront the Subway Boss, Emmet. He is standing in the middle of the car, his posture completely unthreatened and casual, with the same wide smile that is almost always on his face. But there is fog swirling around him, stretching out into bars like a cage.

"Hi. I am Emmet. I am in a prison of sadness."

[He briefly lifts a hand to his mouth and blinks, white guy blinking dot gif style. But he gets that under wraps without missing a beat.]

Well. Allow me to assist the both of you in that.

[derailer]

"Okay."

He is Emmet. He won't belabor the point if he doesn't have to. His smile takes on a more manic energy as he spreads his arms out in a quick, powerful motion, heedless of the fog "cage" as he shows off a Pokeball clutched in each hand.

"I am Emmet. I am a Subway Boss. I like Double Battles. I like combinations of two Pokemon. And I like winning more than anything else. So we are going to have a Double Battle now."

[Oh goddammit. ARE THEY? ARE THEY NOW? Saturn's never been great at these! Usually Jupiter is his doubles partner, and he doesn't have experience alone . . .

He can't really get around it. All right. Who should he use? He tries to remember what Pokemon he's seen Emmet have when witnessing his battles with Ingo or just seeing him out and about, and he can only remember Joltik and that goddamn eel. They're both Electric.]

We'll see if you can manage against me. I know Ingo thinks the world of your abilities, but if I have to take down his own dear brother to fulfill my objective, so be it. Go, Bronzong! Go, Toxicroak!

[derailer]

"Verrrry good. Because if a battle is not serious, it is not fun. Eelektross! Archeops!"

They appear with energetic battle cries. You will have to win separate dice rolls against both of them in order to win.

[Make me do math why don't you! Eelektross of course has no weaknesses, so no supereffective moves here, but Archeops is weak to Steel.

BRONZONG VS ARCHEOPS: 2d6+2 = 8.

TOXICROAK VS EELEKTROSS: 2d6+1 = 5.

Fucking eel!]

FUCKING EEL! Eelektross is a tank with a lot of HP, so with no weaknesses, it's unsurprising he will outlast Toxicroak. For now, Archeops cuts in quickly with an Aerial Ace to Toxicroak, while Eelektross uses Gastro Acid on Archeops so he isn't suffering later.

[FUCK EELS AND FUCK DOUBLE BATTLES, Saturn's team isn't designed for this! But Bronzong is going to hurl a Gyro Ball at Archeops while Toxicroak gets in a Poison Jab to try and poison Eelektross and help take care of that load of HP.]

Alas, Eelektross is not poisoned. And now he's free to use Thunder Wave on Bronzong while Archeops unleashes an Earthquake to get rid of Toxicroak. That Gyro Ball hurt, though...

Sharpedo, you're up next!

[He can't just give up. He said he'd take Emmet down! He's going to take Emmet down!

2d6+1 = 6. Well, he's not going to take Emmet down this time.]

Sharpedo, Liquidation!

[Gotta try and get Eelektross's defense down! It's more important to take out the eel. Bronzong can keep Gyro Balling Archeops on turns where it's not too paralyzed to do so.]
