[Vicious follows, stopping short abruptly behind the Shadow when he pauses, peering over his shoulder from too close to see what he's looking at.]

The Shadow stays very still, so as to avoid acknowledging that Vicious is too close.

The ground opens up into a large hole, which leads down to an icy cavern. There are five or so people down in the cavern, looking pained and desperate—if they are conscious at all.

"Help...! We're saved!"

[stirtheblood]

Tch... They fell down there, huh? Guess they weren't attacked by somethin' at all.

[derailer]

"We fled from the attack," one man protests, "but in our haste, in the storm, we lost track of the path and..."

Fell into a hole, apparently.

[stirtheblood]

[Falling into random holes like that is a running gag in Crestoria and happens at least four times, so this doesn't seem as out of the ordinary to Vicious as it might.]

Sure, yeah. And you're havin' trouble gettin' out on your own, I'm guessin'.

[derailer]

It's not even that absurd of a concept, looking at the hole. It's hard to see in the snowstorm. Ice and snow alike are bright, so it's difficult to tell where the gap in the ground begins without cues. Looking down into the hole, it looks like it's a building story's height beneath you at the bottom. The walls are curved and solid ice. It's a hole easy to fall into, and practically impossible to climb out of.

"Yes..."

[stirtheblood]

[Vicious walks around the Shadow to get a better look and assesses this.]

...Right.

[Then he glances at the Shadow sidelong.]

Plannin' on helpin' 'em out? That's what ya came out here for, right?

[derailer]

The Shadow keeps staring down into the hole, not very reassuring. "How do you suppose we get someone out of such a hole without falling in ourselves? Not to mention it seems there are several injuries from the alpha or from the fall."

[stirtheblood]

Ehhh? You're the one who knows stuff.

[About living in this area specifically, but also just, in general.]

Are ya sayin' there's no way?

[derailer]

"A Flying or Psychic type Pokemon might be able to get them out without as much trouble."

[stirtheblood]

So you just gotta find one o' those, right?

[derailer]

"There are options, if we were to backtrack to the Heart's Crag."

[stirtheblood]

So you plannin' on doin' that, or just standin' here starin'?

[derailer]

"..."

Fine, fine. He wordlessly turns around and starts retracing his steps towards Heart's Crag.

[stirtheblood]

Heh. Guess we'll be back soon! Try not to die in the meantime.

[Vicious offers that to the injured people in the hole before turning to follow the Shadow.]

[derailer]

Terrible day when Vicious is being the good cop in the rescue team.

Ingo's Shadow retraces their steps partway, and then veers off towards the river, down a slope to stop on an icy "beach". Some Rufflets are flying over from the far shore, spotting the intruders.

The Shadow turns to Vicious to see if Vicious will do anything about them first.

[stirtheblood]

Eh, those ones? Those gonna be strong enough to carry 'em out?

[derailer]

"...If we want to find something better, we have to cross the river, which is its own problem. Do you think you can swim?"

[stirtheblood]

How'm I s'posed to know? Do you think I can swim?

[derailer]

"Probably. Do you want to? It's going to be freezing cold."

[stirtheblood]

It's already freezin' cold.

[derailer]

Hmmm. Vicious isn't going to get sick from being freezing and wet, probably.

"All right. So try it. Or don't. I suppose my path is set now either way."

As for the Shadow, true to his title, he steps forward, fades into the air, and then reappears on the far shore just as easily.

[stirtheblood]

—Hey! That's cheatin'! Why're ya even walkin' this whole way if ya can just do that?!

[He yells. Then sighs, looking up.]

...Whaddaya wanna do, Litten?

[derailer]

Litten definitely doesn't like the look of the freezing cold river, digging his claws in deeper in apprehension.

The Shadow decides to just keep walking inland to find a good Pokemon to catch, since apparently he has to be the one to catch it anyway.

[stirtheblood]

Well, whatever. Let's go play with the small ones 'til he gets back.

[He's gonna go fight a Rufflet.]
