Down this path, even through the fog, you can see the chasm to your left, where Chargestone Cave opens up to see the lower levels. You make it to a thin outcropping with a bridge spanning across the chasm. And then you hear a voice.

"Well, if it isn't Emmet!"

Someone is standing on the bridge, facing you, difficult to see through the fog. How he saw you, you have no idea.

Yes, I am Emmet! Who is there?

[ He squints through the fog, trying to see who it could possibly be. ]

[derailer]

"It's me, Alder! Get over here. Or what, were you afraid of heights this whole time?"

[likewinning]

Oh. Hi Alder.

[ He heads over that way! ]

[derailer]

"You've come a long way, haven't you? Never thought I'd meet you in a magical mindscape like this. Hahaha! Not too tired out from the cave?"

[likewinning]

Me neither. Of course you would be in Ingo's mindscape, though. Are we going to battle?

[derailer]

"Seems only appropriate, doesn't it? For the Victory Line. You think you can handle it on your own, without your big brother this time?"

It doesn't seem like trash talk. He is making genuine conversation.

[ And with that, he throws out Archeops. ]

[derailer]

"That's the spirit. I know you can do it. So let's prove that you're up to the challenge!"

Of course, he sends out Volcarona. It's a Pokemon battle!

[ 8 + 1 for super effective + 1 for STAB = 10! ]

Archeops, use Aerial Ace! You can do it!

You're just rubbing it in by not using a Rock-type move!! I can win handily with just a regular super-effective move, says Emmet!!

But it's true. You do win handily. Volcarona's Overheat doesn't do much against Archeops.

"Hah! That's the kind of spirit I was looking for!"

[ Maybe he's just a little more fired up than usual. Or maybe he wanted to bolster Archeops's spirits by letting him UTTERLY CRUSH the ex-Champion's ace (thanks dice).

Either way, Emmet reaches over to scritch at Archeops's chin. ]

Good job, Archeops. We are definitely an incredible pairing.

"You two have been partners since the beginning, huh... You and Archen—Archeops. That's what this line is all about. It's too bad your brother doesn't remember more of such an important journey. Get out there and show him what he's missing!"

From his poncho he pulls out a plate—engraved on it are the words, "The power of defeated giants infuses this plate."

[ He takes the plate, slipping it into his pocket. ]

Yes. Archie has been with me from the verrrry start of my journey.

[ Archeops squawks happily upon hearing his childhood nickname. Yes!! That's me!! ]

"Archie and you are gonna win this."

He hands one over! An escape rope will lead you right back to Gear Station without any more pesky random cave encounters.
